As General Manager, Dianne Hartson-Lalonde is responsible for leading our management team so as to ensure the safety, comfort and enjoyment of our residents. Dianne has a nursing background, combined with extensive management experience, including the management of several retirement residences in Alberta and Ontario.
Dianne is originally from Newfoundland, and although she has lived “away” for most of her adult life, she hasn’t lost any of her down east warmth and friendly nature. She believes in an “open door” policy and is always available to meet with residents and their families, or simply join them for coffee in our bistro.
BRENDA MCLEAN, R.N., B.Sc. N., M. Ed.
Director of Care
Our Director of Care, Brenda MacLean, has many years of nursing experience, both in a hospital setting and in the public health sector. As a manager at Ottawa Public Health, she was responsible for overseeing a number of programs focusing on family health, chronic disease prevention, the prevention and control of infectious diseases, and environmental health issues.
Brenda has worked directly with long term care homes and retirement residences throughout the Ottawa area to prevent infectious diseases and to implement the annual immunization program for all residents and staff. This experience has provided her with first-hand knowledge of retirement residence operations and industry best practices.
Brenda and her team of professionals are committed to ensuring that every individual living at Hazeldean Gardens receives high quality personalized care and support, in a respectful and safe manner.
Community Relations Manager
As Community Relations Manager, Chris Jackson is responsible for attracting and welcoming new residents to our community at Hazeldean Gardens. He is also responsible for our many outreach activities aimed at ensuring Hazeldean Gardens is recognized as an integral part of the surrounding community.
One example of our community outreach is the innovative public-private partnership we established with the City of Ottawa and the Kavanagh family to enhance the greenspace at the intersection of Stittsville Main and Hazeldean Road, now known as “Kavanagh Green”. Another is our partnership with the Goulbourn Museum to create one-of-a-kind experiences for our residents, including bringing a rotating display of artifacts from the museum to Hazeldean Gardens.
Chris understands the importance of treating our residents as customers who have a right to expect superior customer service. He has over 20 years of experience in a variety of businesses, including owning and operating an Edible Arrangements franchise.
Fitness & Healthy Lifestyles Manager
Gabe is passionate about helping people achieve greater wellness and improved quality of life through fitness and recreation. He meets with each new resident to develop a personalized fitness plan, and to identify their preferred activities ranging from cards to crafts, bingo, casino outings, Nintendo Wii, trivia, movies, musical entertainment and much more.
Originally from Uruguay, Gabe speaks Spanish and Italian, in addition to English – as well as being an avid soccer fan. He has a background in Physical Education, Fitness and Recreation combined with seven years of experience working with seniors in retirement residences.
Gabe will do his best to encourage your participation in the many activities offered at Hazeldean Gardens and his aim is to make everyone laugh at least once every day. Remember, you’re never too old to have fun!
Environmental Services Manager
Our Environmental Services Manager, Stan Marciniak is responsible for maintenance and housekeeping, as well as building security and fire safety. He is a Technical College graduate, who immigrated to Canada from Poland 30 years ago, and has worked with the owners of Hazeldean Gardens for over 10 of those years.
Stan enjoys interaction with our residents and assisting them in any way he can. He and his team are always available to respond to minor problems that may arise, or to help with everyday chores such as arranging furniture or hanging pictures.
Apart from his technical skills, Stan takes pride in the achieving the highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance. This will be obvious to anyone visiting Hazeldean Gardens
Executive Chef & Food Services Manager
What do the former Governor General of Canada, United States Ambassador to Canada, and Johnny Cash all have in common? They have all enjoyed delectable meals prepared by our Executive Chef & Food Services Manager, Stephen Gervais.
Stephen, who is originally from Montreal and a graduate of the “Institut de tourisme et d’hotellerie du Quebec”, brings over 40 years of culinary and management experience to Hazeldean Gardens His passion for food has taken him all over the world, including executive positions in Canada, the U. S., China, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. He has recently returned to Canada and settled in Stittsville – just minutes from Hazeldean Gardens.
Stephen and his hand-picked team realize that we are in your home and the kitchen is the heart of every home. Whether it’s your favourite comfort food, traditional classics, or special dietary needs, we understand how important the quality of our food is to your overall satisfaction with Hazeldean Gardens. Stephen and his team look forward to serving you every day.
Lynn is responsible for our administrative services including the preparation of resident statements, accounts payable, employee records and payroll. She has extensive administrative experience working with a variety of well-known companies across Canada. Equally significant, for the past ten years she has worked in a local retirement residence, which has provided her with an appreciation of seniors’ needs and the importance of personal service. Like all of the Managers at Hazeldean Gardens, she is dedicated treating residents with respect and helping them maintain a high quality of life.
